Trump’s Jesus-style AI image fuels global backlash and Vatican tensions

The U.S. president took down his social media post but didn't recant his criticism of Pope Leo

Earlier this week, U.S. President Donald Trump posted an AI image to Truth Social showing himself in Jesus-style robes, with glowing hands healing a man who is ill. The image, reminiscent of Renaissance religious paintings, came on the heels of a lengthy Truth Social post, where he attacked Pope Leo as “weak” and “a loser.”

The image, along with Trump’s mounting attacks on the Pope, is sparking a global uproar among Christians and Trump allies alike. Trump has since deleted the image and claimed: “I thought it was me as a doctor, and it had to do with the Red Cross.” He blamed outrage over the post on “fake news.”

Last week, the Vatican said that the Trump administration had threatened the Holy See, telling church leadership in January that “the United States has the military power to do whatever it wants,” and that “the Church had better take its side.”

More on Broadview:

The Pope responded to Trump and his administration by saying, I’m not afraid of the Trump administration or of speaking out loudly about the message of the Gospel, which is what the Church works for. I will continue to speak out strongly against war,” he added.

On Wednesday evening, Trump uploaded another AI image, this time of Jesus embracing him. Thursday morning, the Trump administration announced it will cut an $11 million USD contract with the Catholic Charities in Miami. The move puts a large number of migrant youth, who benefit from the charity’s housing and aid programs, at risk of homelessness.

Pope Leo continues to speak about the need for world peace at each stop during his tour across Algeria, Cameroon, Angola and Equatorial Guinea. The president doubled down on Thursday, saying that he has nothing to apologize for.

  1. The only problem with Donald Trump as Jesus is when they try to nail his naked Humpyy Dumpty body upon a cross, we’re the ones who will forced to suffer.

  2. Everyone I know is beyond outraged by this sort of thing from Trump. If I believed in hell I would say he will burn in a fiery furnace for attacking the Pope, as well as for his great many other misdeeds. Actually, I think hell is what we are living through right now during his presidency.
