GOD IS IN OUR DARKNESS

My name is Keith Knill (Rev. Dr.). I’ve written a book based upon my work as a UC minister and psychotherapist for over 50 years. Its subject is spiritual healing, and it addresses how God is present in our greatest suffering, our healing, and what this means. The book is inspiring, unnerving and potentially explosive theologically, spiritually and therapeutically. To make the book readily available, the book is free to read or download. Please visit keithknill.ca. and click on the image.

OTTAWA

Carleton Memorial United Church – Nurturing a spiritual quest in our community: some might call it church.

How might we design that “church” in the way we gather and work in the community? In this time of change and external pressures, a calm, consistent anchor is needed more than ever. To design and implement this community-oriented spiritual centre, we seek a spiritual guide/pastor who sees themselves as a facilitator/guide not a driver, supported by a nimble, engaged group: our congregation. Dedicated to “Peace, Courage, and Confidence,” Carleton Memorial has a 76-year history of engagement with the community, addressing not only the spiritual needs but also the secular ones, from operating a thriving day care to supporting a local community support centre.

We are on a quest for someone who can help us configure a church which serves as a spiritual centre, an individual capable of showing the community where the solid ground lies, by virtue of shepherding a congregation which stands as an island of tranquility. Although a small congregation, we have the vitality and capacity to strive for a better world; and we appreciate the wisdom and discernment necessary to navigate personal and community issues. Does this sound like you, or someone you would like to be? The master shepherd often taught through parables: he was a master storyteller, able to address frustration, fear, and marginalization by moving individuals and the community to a more expansive and inclusive world.

Would you describe your leadership as relational and co-creative? Do you speak and model the “language of community”? Do you approach situations asking how can we work together to achieve a more capable, more connected life? Do joy and enthusiasm fit in your approach to ministry? If this narrative resonates with you, we en courage you to contact us to continue this conversation and discuss the many assets that make CMUC a unique and life-giving opportunity. Together, perhaps we can co-create a team that will continue to be a beacon of hope and support to the community writ large, and a comfort and strength to those of us who call ourselves Carleton Memorial United Church.
