U.S. President Donald Trump has said he’s a Christian. So in a desperate plea Tuesday, one Episcopal bishop appealed to his faith.
Rt. Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, spoke directly to Trump, who sat in the front row during the inaugural prayer service at the Washington National Cathedral, calling on him to consider the impact of his policies and campaign promises on 2SLGBTQ+ people and migrants.
“In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now,” she said near the end of her 15-minute sermon. “There are gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican and Independent families, some who fear for their lives.”
Trump later demanded an apology from Budde and her church in a post on his social media site, Truth Social.
But the video has since gone viral, and some derived some satisfaction from watching the preacher address him. “That video has the potential to be iconic for future historians looking back at the cruel joke that is current politics,” one person wrote on a YouTube video of the sermon. “Their faces say everything,” they said of Trump and U.S. Vice-President J.D. Vance’s reactions.

Sheldon LeGrow says:
I saw the news clip. Rev. Budde is a true hero and not afraid to speak truth to power. We need more people with such integrity in our society.
Not impressed says:
I submitted a different opinion and it hasn’t appeared here. I think it’s wrong to support illegals and pay them dismal wages because no one else will do those jobs. Pay good wages to honest people who immigrate legally through proper channels.
