Webinar: Addressing the Bullying of Clergy — Strategies and Solutions for Healthier Churches

Bullying isn’t just a schoolyard issue; it affects adults in the workplace, students in post-secondary institutions and clergy across denominations. It’s time to address it head-on. Join us for an engaging webinar as we explore the growing problem and focus on solutions to resolve it together.

Based on Rev. Christopher White’s thought-provoking article in the April/May 2024 issue of Broadview, this event brings together thoughtful voices from the church and mental health fields to explore how clergy can navigate the challenges, and how congregations can cultivate kindness, respect and resilience.

What You’ll Learn:

  • What is adult bullying? Signs, risk factors and causes
  • Why bullying happens in church and other work settings
  • Real-world solutions that clergy, congregants and the wider church can apply to stop bullying in its tracks
  • How we can rebuild trust and foster healthier, more harmonious communities of faith

Meet Our Panellists:

  • Christopher White – United Church minister, writer and bullying survivor
  • Linda Crockett – psychological safety consultant, trainer, trauma therapist, and founder of the Canadian Institute of Workplace Bullying Resources
  • Brad Morrison – Theology professor, United Church minister and psychotherapist

Our panellists will help us better understand the problem and offer concrete strategies to turn the tide on clergy bullying, ensuring that our churches remain places of support, respect and spiritual growth. There will also be time for a Q&A where you can ask your most pressing questions and join the conversation.

Whether you’re clergy, a church leader or a congregant looking to create positive change, this webinar is your chance to build your knowledge and skills, and become part of the solution

    Dreamers.
Nothing really changes as Bullied clergy was rampant in the earlyu 90s- I know as one of them. Back then the U.C. manual had 10 pages about the aactions of the clergy & TWO pages about the responsibility of the Congregations. Today ???

The church I served as a latecomer to ministry , There bulding comm. was derelict in care of the furnace. I almost died- a hair from, from Carbon Monoxide poisoning; At a Ministerial curling I told the story of the end comment of a Board member- "
Furnace repairman- Your Furnace Plenum is leaking CO. & must be repaired
Church leader- Can it wait for 6 months ??
Serviceman- sure if you don't mind waking up one morning with your Pastor & wife dead or the Manse going up in flames.
    Curch leader- Repair immediately.

The fellow pastor to whom I was talking immediately said- They didn't want their Manse to burn down.

I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT & THE IMPLIED DEATH AS NOT THE PRIORITY

I THEN TOLD THIS STORY TO EIGHT OTHER PASTORS of different denominations; they ALL had the same immediate response- "They didn't want their Manse to burn down".
    NOTHING CHANGES APPARENTLY.
